The pastoral or shepherding care of the congregation is carried out through its pastors, its elders, and through one of our trusted counseling ministries.
Pastoral Staff
The senior and associate pastor are available by appointment to address a wide variety of spiritual concerns for Kirk members. While either of the pastors would be available for such meetings, short-term counseling is commonly handled by the Minister of Congregational Care, Dr. Mike Kennison. Matters requiring extended counsel are often referred to our counseling ministry partners.
To request a counseling appointment with a pastor, please contact the church office.
Elders
The elders of the church provide shepherding oversight for Kirk members through several vehicles:
Community Groups (small group fellowship)
Sunday school participation
Home visitation
Prayer times for congregational needs
Professional Christian Counseling
Various types of needs require more than a few sessions and can be provided through local counseling ministries. The following are a few reputable counseling centers/counselors attached to sister churches.

Stephen Ministries
Stephen Ministers are ready to provide the emotional and spiritual care we need when faced with a crisis or difficulty. Our congregation's Stephen Ministry equips lay people to provide one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry: The identity of those receiving care and what takes place in each caring relationship remain private. To learn how to become—or receive care from—a Stephen Minister, contact John Salmon at 312.479.0963 or Mike Kennison.
GriefShare
GriefShare is a 13-week support group for those who've lost a loved one. Meetings will take place Thursday evenings from late fall through mid-spring. Each video and meeting is self-contained so that you may start at any time. The sessions are open and free to all. Contact Mike Kennison for more information.
