Homeless Care Kits

Questions your kids may ask…

What is a homeless person?

A homeless person is someone who does not have a house or apartment to return to every night. They may not have family or friends who will let them stay in their homes. They most likely live on the streets or possibly in their car.

How does someone become homeless?

Homes cost money and these individuals do not have enough money to pay for a home. Sometimes people lose their jobs and become homeless. Sometimes they get sick or have a disability which keeps them from being able to work a job. Sometimes a family member who provided for them dies and this might leave the rest of the family without money or a home.

What do homeless people do all day?

Homeless people might walk from place to place looking for food, a warm and dry space to rest, and somewhere to go to the bathroom and take a shower. They might spend their day looking for ways to earn money. You oftentimes see homeless people at a traffic light all day asking for money to buy food for themselves or their whole family. They also spend time in public spaces such as libraries or parks.

Where do homeless people sleep?

Homeless people have to walk from place to place in search for a safe, warm, and dry place to sleep. Homeless shelters are places that take in homeless individuals for a short period of time. Homeless people may also set up a tent or simply use something like a cardboard box and blanket to stay warm and dry.

How can we help?

Homeless Care Kits help provide for basic needs homeless people may have. You could also serve food at a homeless shelter or help at a food bank which offers things like canned soup and peanut butter for those who cannot afford groceries. Praying for homeless individuals is a great way to help, asking God to keep them safe and help them find a way to earn money in order to afford food and a home. We can also pray that they would believe in Jesus!

Discussion Questions:

What do you think would be the hardest part of not having a home?

How do you feel when you are hungry and have to wait to eat? How would it feel to experience that sort of hunger every day? How would you feel if you had to rely on a stranger to provide your lunch or dinner every day?

What things are you grateful for? Are these things you need to live or things that are simply nice to have?
